The IAALL proposes a series of language kits which depart from the words shared by two language groups as a start point for learning the language.
This concept for courses remains a work-in-progress, but an attempt based on the similarities in between English and French resulted in the following possible categorisations.
1. Conversion. A guide as to how to convert words from the one language based on changing the pronunciation and/or conjugations.
1.a. Non-negotiables. The most important new words which one simply MUST learn in order to communicate.
2. Loan words. The course provides a list of all loan words. Words which can simply be taken from the one language and used in the other without differing in meaning.
3. Related. The course provides a list of words which, while not directly transferrable, are able to be used with somewhat similar meanings. They might result in strange constructions, but will be intelligible.
eg. j’habite (FR) > I inhabit.
4. Abstractions. The course provides a list of words which, if one is able to think a bit out of the box, are transferrable despite being quite strange.
5. False Friends. The student, now hopefully with an expanded view of the language then receives
